How to Install vlc on Fedora 24 Workstation

Vlc media player is the best media player for Fedora workstation 24.  If you are using Fedora on your PC, then you need a video player which can play any video format. VLC Player is a free, open source, cross platform media player that can play almost all video formats available.

In This tutorial we are going to install VLC on Fedora workstation 24. You can use the following method on any of previous Fedora desktop versions, including Fedora 23 and 22.

Vlc player does not come with the default Fedora software repository. But we can use RPM Fusion free repository which  provides VLC for Fedora Linux.

Add RPM Fusion on Fedora 24

First, install the RPM Fusion repository using dnf install command (This is also works for the Fedora 23 and 22).

dnf install http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/rpmfusion-free-release-$(rpm -E %fedora).noarch.rpm

Run the dnf repolist command to make sure that RPM Fusion repository is active.

dnf repolist

Install VLC player using dnf install command

We have configured vlc repository for fedora 24 and now we can install vlc on fedora 24 using dnf install command.

dnf -y install vlc

After installation is finished, you can open VLC player from the fedora activities menu.
